Near Earth Object

Near Earth Objects consist of leftover debris from the formation of our solar system. The earth’s gravitational pull coerces the debris into our atmosphere. NASA is currently monitoring over thirteen hundred of these objects, measuring their potential as a threat. There’s been a number of close encounters, but as of late, we’ve been spared a large collision. Fortunately, our earth’s atmosphere constantly protects against a continuing stream of space debris. But sometimes large objects make it through. Russia experienced a meteor fall which injured over a thousand people in early 2013. Apocalyptic predictions surround these near objects. Some theorize that the dinosaurs spiral down to extinction began with a comet or asteroid collision.  Subsequently, NASA is working on a new warning system called ATLAS. The system will provide likely impact points and provide timely warnings.
