Black Rhino

You too can hunt the critically endangered Black Rhino.  Namibian officials will charge you $350,000 dollars to reaffirm your domination over the diminishing diversity of our natural environment.  Sure, some of the money may fund awareness campaigns, but encouraging the hunt doesn’t equate to more concern.  Encouraging the hunt can just as likely encourage further thoughtless killing that profit the poaching.  In fact, 2013 was a record year for black rhino poaching in South Africa.  Education remains the best tool for awareness and understanding of the species.  Nevertheless, the hunt permits involve older males that are detrimental to the development of the herd.  We can only trust that Namibian officials will use the funds wisely.  Though once declared “doomed”, conservation efforts have brought the species back from some 2300 to a current population of over 5000.  Check out this shooting of a white and black rhino.
