The latest near earth object has passed without incident. Asteroid 2012 DA14 made the closest pass ever by an asteroid around 2:25pm E.S.T on February 15, 2013. The earth has manage to dodge another close call. And more interesting, the pass coincides with a meteor collision in Russia. This latest impact exploded with bomb like force, injuring over a thousand people. The chances of the 2012 DA14 crossing tracks with the Russian meteor are 1 to 100 million. The unassociated asteroid was discovered by amateur astronomers about a year ago. Since discovery, scientist have tracked it’s visiting path. More on Near Earth Objects.
